The trust wants to restore more purple heather to the land

An area around Nipstone tor in Stiperstones, Shropshire, has been put up for sale by the Forestry Commission.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is keen to buy the site but needs to find an extra �20,000 by Christmas.

The trust is running a Back to Purple campaign so it can remove conifer plantation from the land and restore the traditional purple heather.

Development manager said the chance to buy the 36-hectares was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"The Forestry Commission is selling the land and is keen the wildlife trust should be the buyer.

"We have until Christmas to come up with the asking price.

"We are looking to our members and anyone else who cares about this most atmospheric part of Shropshire to help us raise the money."

The Countryside Agency has given �70,000, which is half the asking price. Other environmental groups have also helped raise money.
