Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust's deputy chief executive has been suspended pending the outcome of a financial review. The suspension of Martin Herd, who is also the finance director, does not imply any guilt or wrongdoing, hospital spokesman Phil Hipkiss said.
The trust is being investigated by external auditors KPMG.
It was formed in 2003 with the merger of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal in Telford.
Mr Hipkiss said: "There has been a suspension of an individual at the trust but that's pending an investigation.
"There's nothing unusual with that and certainly doesn't infer any guilt or wrongdoing.
"It's normal practice to suspend people when a matter is being investigated."
Mr Herd was unavailable for comment.
