People who are hard of hearing are being urged to have a special alarm fitted to their homes which could save their lives in the event of a fire. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the alarms are especially important for those living in rented property where standard alarms are unsuitable.
Smoke alarms let off a loud noise but this device flashes and vibrates and can be kept under a pillow or mattress.
The warning comes as part of Deaf Awareness Week.
The Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) said the awareness week is a good time to make sure the deaf are properly protected.
