The grant has been made to the Pre-School Learning Alliance, which provides those who run groups for young children with advice and support.

Pat Bell, the alliance's executive and finance officer, said: "News of our continuation funding is wonderful.

"I didn't dare think what would happen if the funding stopped." The money has come from the Big Lottery Fund.
