Protest at plan to increase homes
Campaigners are to send a petition to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in their fight to stop a large housing estate being built in Shropshire.

Developers Westbury Homes plan to build new homes on land adjacent to Lacon Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer.

They had originally proposed to build 70 houses but now want permission to increase the number to 113.

Local residents say it is too many and want the Deputy Prime Minister to intervene in the firm's plans.

Westbury Homes plan to build a mixture of private, social and affordable housing on the land which is almost six acres in size.

The sale has funded plans to turn Lacon Childe school into a centre of sporting excellence.

The school plans to build three floodlit tennis and netball courts, a floodlit all weather surface, two rugby pitches, a redesigned football pitch, a cycle track and a large community recreation area.
