Schools complete broadband chain
Shropshire councillor with school pupils after beating broadband connection target
More than 100 km of fibre optic cable has been laid in the county
Schools in Shropshire have beaten Government targets for broadband connection by more than 12 months.

Clunbury was the last of Shropshire County Council Education Department's 167 schools to join the high-speed internet link.

The job has also been completed at Telford & Wrekin's 86 schools.

Phil Box, the county council's cabinet member for e-Governance, says it shows what can be achieved despite Shropshire being a large, rural county.

"While 60% of primary schools nationally are still not connected, we have shown what we can achieve in Shropshire despite the challenges of being a large rural county," he said.

"We are a year ahead of Government targets and more importantly our children and young people the length and breadth of the county are now able to take advantage of the learning opportunities broadband makes possible."
