Air show returns to county

A popular Shropshire air show, cancelled in 2003 because of the Iraq war, is to return in 2004.

The Cosford Air Show, which normally attracts up to 50,000 people to the RAF base, will be held on 13 June.

Historic and RAF combat aircraft will be taking part and it is hoped foreign planes will also participate.

John Francis, general manager of the RAF Museum at Cosford, said organisers were working hard.

"It was disappointing to have to cancel the 2003 show, but it was surrounded with such uncertainty that the organising committee was left with no alternative," he said.

"We hope that everything will go well for the 2004 show and we are working hard to put together a show programme which will rank with the best we have organised."

In addition to the flying, there will also be a fun fair, craft fair and a market at the show, proceeds from which are shared between the Cosford museum and RAF charities.

The organisers decided to cancel the 2003 show because of uncertainty over whether there would be enough military aircraft to take part in the event as a result of the Iraq crisis.
