Drinking alcohol in parts of a Shropshire town could soon be banned following complaints from residents. Oswestry Borough Council wants to stop drinking in public places which could lead to troublemakers being fined up to 500.
Senior police officers are supporting the introduction of an order banning alcohol from being consumed in parts of the town.
A number of residents in the area said they felt intimidated by the threatening behaviour of some drunken revellers.
If the scheme is agreed drinking alcohol will be banned in Festival Square, Cae Glas Park, the Central Car Park and Bailey Head.
Council leaders will meet next week to decide whether to go ahead with the ban.
