Plans to build a theatre on the former home of Shrewsbury Town Football Club have been rejected by council leaders. Instead of developing the Gay Meadow site councillors want local people to give their views on a proposal for the former Telephone House on the banks of the River Severn.
The authority wants to build the town's new theatre as soon as possible and has given local people until 20 August to put forward their views.
It is hoped the development will also include plans for a new bus station and extra parking.
The consultation document also includes a suggestion to turn the town's Music Hall into a visitor attraction featuring the life of one of Shropshire's most famous sons, the naturalist Charles Darwin.
Other proposals include moving the tourist information centre from the Music Hall to Rowley's House musum which would then be developed as a museum for the whole of Shropshire and include a time tour of Shrewsbury.
