Council plans litter blitz

Flytippers and litter louts are being targeted by a borough council.

CCTV cameras will be used by Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council to identify culprits.

The council's by-law officer will also be handing out on-the-spot fines to people who drop litter - and five potential prosecutions are currently under consideration.

"Work is also underway to introduce mobile CCTV cameras for surveillance purposes at various hot spots in the rural areas of the borough," said Geraint Morgan, director of community services.

He added: "The council is keen to secure the support of local magistrates to recognise the wider impact on society of this type of behaviour."

The council also plans to spread the anti-litter message to schools and businesses.
