The event will feature scale models of World War II bombers |
Up to 300 aircraft will take to the skies for the biggest scale model air show in Europe at RAF Cosford in Shropshire in July. Among the attractions will be a flying pageant featuring models ranging from the Bleriot machine, which made the first crossing of the English Channel, and jet-powered models of the new Eurofighter.
There will also be a fly-past of scale models of World War II bombers, including the famous Lancaster, Halifax, Stirling and Wellington aircraft.
Also flying will be a scale model of an Avro Vulcan, the delta-winged V-bomber which, along with the Valiant and Victor, made up Britain's post-war strike force.
'Total authenticity'
The Vulcan will be powered by four miniature turbo-jet engines, giving the large models a realistic appearance and sound.
The models will be flown individually and in formation by "pilots" on the ground.
Rally organiser Arthur Searle said: "This will be the biggest scale model show in Europe and we are expecting a big crowd from Britain and overseas.
"There will be continuous flying from nine to five each day and the pageant, depicting 100 years of flying, will form part of the display on the morning and afternoon of each day, as will the bomber fly-past."
John Francis, general manager of the RAF Museum Cosford, said: "We are most grateful for the co-operation of the RAF station in allowing the airfield to be used for the rally, which gives the whole event total authenticity."
RAF Cosford's museum will be open and included in the price of admission.
The event takes place on 12 and 13 July.
