A major scheme to boost shopping facilities in Oswestry has won the backing of planning officials at Oswestry Borough Council. Despite some objections from local people, they are urging councillors to give the go ahead to a new DIY store and two other retail warehouses.
The scheme, which goes before the council's planners on Tuesday, involves demolishing the Furrows car showrooms and workshops in the town's Salop Road.
In their place, developers want to build three retail warehouses, including one for a DIY and garden centre and another which is expected to be used for selling carpets.
There would also be parking for 180 cars.
Local objectors, who are worried about traffic problems, say the development should be sited well away from the town centre.
But a report by council officials recommends the go ahead and says the stores will provide a much needed addition to the town's shopping facilities.
