Hospital records low death rates
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has the lowest death rate in the West Midlands, according to a survey.

The survey, carried out by the Sunday Times newspaper, looked at 18 hospitals in the region and the average yearly death rates over three years.

Royal Shrewsbury Hospital had the lowest mortality rate with 89 deaths.

The Good Hospital Guide, which is out on Sunday, claims mortality rates indicate whether or not a hospital has good standards of clinical care.

Five hospitals have higher than expected mortality rates with Walsall Hospitals showing the highest with 126 deaths.

The guide also looked at waiting times which showed Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS hospitals were above average admitting 94% of its referrals within six months.
