The Swiss helicopter carries in to place the new transmitter ready for digital switchover in 2011

A helicopter has been used to help with work on the Oxford TV transmitter.

The Swiss aircraft replaced the existing transmitter at Beckley with a new one as part of work in preparation for digital switchover in 2011.

Digital UK, which is co-ordinating the work, earlier apologised to viewers in Oxfordshire who had experienced problems with their TV reception.

The BBC received hundreds of inquiries from viewers, some who had bought new equipment after suffering signal loss.

Digital UK said the work was essential and hoped it would be complete by the beginning of April.

Channels worst-affected include ITV 1 and 2, Channel 4, E4 and five.

A reserve aerial is being used while work is being carried out.
