Hundreds of schools have reopened across Oxfordshire as students prepare to sit GCSE, AS and A-level exams. More snow fell on Sunday night and Monday in parts of the county, causing hazardous conditions for drivers on many of the roads. There were still delays on buses but some routes have returned to normal. The freezing weather is expected to continue for the next few days but forecasters say milder conditions are expected later in the week. Spate of accidents People in a number of towns reported very icy conditions, with delays on many roads. Lorries had difficulties moving across the county, particularly on untreated country roads and hills. Emergency services have urged people to take extra care on the county's roads following a spate of crashes. Oxfordshire County Council said it was expecting more deliveries of grit on Monday. It added that 4x4 vehicles were still being used to help visit the most vulnerable. Meanwhile, many schools reopened after being closed last week. Many day pupils at Bloxham School in Banbury stayed at the boarding school all weekend to make sure they could sit their exams. Head teacher Mark Allbrook said: "When it comes to public exams in the sixth form, you don't get another chance. "Therefore, we felt that we had to try and get as many of them in as possible to give them the best chance of doing themselves justice." Police also issued a warning to people to keep off frozen lakes, ponds and rivers, after receiving "numerous" reports of children and adults on frozen water. Bin collections continue to be disrupted, with only South and West Oxfordshire District Councils running services. Hundreds of schools were closed across Oxfordshire last week after up to 28cm (11in) of snow fell.
