Oxford defender James Clarke had to be cut out of his car

Oxford United defender James Clarke has been cut free from his car after a crash on the A34 in Oxfordshire.

The 19-year-old, from Aylesbury, was taken to hospital after escaping with minor injuries.

The accident, involving three cars, happened on the northbound carriageway between Weston-on-the-Green and junction 9 of the M40 at Bicester.

The stretch was closed for several hours causing extensive tailbacks, both lanes re-opened at 1700 GMT.

Clarke came through the ranks of the youth team at the club before earning a professional contract at the Kassam Stadium. He has played 29 times for the club in league and cup competitions.
