Flooding relief grants unclaimed
Flooded out allotments in Osney, Oxford
Thousands of properties were flooded during the summer
Time is running out for flood victims to claim a grant, a council has warned.

Residents hit by the summer's floods in Oxford must apply for a flood recovery grant by the end of October.

Oxford City Council received 60,000 from the government following the floods in July but have only had 67 applications for the 250 grants.

Part of the grant has also been set aside for extra payments for residents who suffered additional hardship as a consequence of the flood.

So far, 44 people have applied for hardship grants.

Michael Lawrence, council spokesperson for housing, said: "We have written to the households concerned to inform them that they may be entitled to the grant"

Eligibility is based on the government's definition of flooded properties, which is flood water inside residential accommodation.

There is also some money available from the Lord Mayor's flood appeal fund.
