Town residents ban 'cold callers'
A second 'No Cold Calling' zone to clamp down on rogue traders and distraction burglaries in an Oxfordshire town is being set up.

The flats at the end of Harpsden Road and War Memorial Place in Henley-on-Thames have been targeted by burglars and high pressure salespeople.

Signs warning against canvassing for business in the area are being put up by police and the local councils.

Police claim other 'No Cold Calling' zones have reduced burglaries by 40%.

Julia Wheeler, crime reduction advisor from Thames Valley Police, said: "Some cold callers prey on residents, particularly the vulnerable and elderly in order to trick money out of them and there is a clear link between bogus callers and burglaries.

"Results of other 'No Cold Calling' zones around the country have shown a reduction in both burglaries and fear of crime."

The scheme will be introduced on 30 October and follows several other areas of Oxfordshire, where doorstep callers have already been banned.
