City residents ban 'cold callers'
Another part of Oxford has become a "no cold calling" zone to help combat rogue traders and distraction burglaries.

Residents in Cutteslowe have followed the example of people in Wolvercote by putting up signs warning against canvassing for business in the area.

The city council said there had been no distraction burglaries in Wolvercote since the scheme started there.

A trading standards spokesman said: "We know from our work that there are many rogues operating on the doorstep."

Jan Robinson, crime reduction officer, said: "This is an initiative that has reduced crime in other areas.

"Distraction burglary is one of the most distressing types of offence we have to deal with and can have long-term consequences for victims."
