Prisoners have helped draw up a guide for ex-inmates to use in trying to find a place to live when they leave prison. The guide - launched at Bicester's HMP Bullingdon - has been put together amid concerns that prisoners are more likely to reoffend if they have nowhere to go.
Produced by Oxfordshire County Council, the leaflet includes information about how to find a new home and how to manage day-to-day finances.
Nationally, 40% of inmates leave prison without a home to go to, it is claimed.
Nick Welch, from the county council, said: "There is strong evidence that if people have nowhere to live when they leave prison they are more likely to commit further offences, creating a vicious circle."
The Probation Service said that the risk of reoffending was reduced by 20% if people left prison for stable accommodation.
