Theft warnings sent to car owners
Car crime (Thames Valley Police)
About 500 car crimes are reported in Henley every year
People who leave valuable items in their parked cars could end up with a written warning from the Home Office.

Police and car park wardens in Henley, Oxfordshire, are joining forces to target vehicle crime.

Over the next year, they will patrol known crime hot spots taking details of cars left insecure or with valuables or personal belongings on display.

The registered owners will then be sent a letter from the Home Office warning them of the risks they are taking.

About 500 car crimes, including theft of, theft from and criminal damage to vehicles, are reported every year in the Henley area.

Julia Wheeler, Henley crime reduction adviser, said: "We are working together to improve areas where vehicle crime occurs but we need to reinforce the message to motorists of the link between leaving valuables in the car where they can be seen and the likelihood of having their car broken into."
