Decision over new homes' location
Builder at work (generic)
The new homes plan for the county will be submitted to the government
Council bosses have now decided where they will build more than 9,000 new homes across Oxfordshire.

Of the 47,200 homes which must be built by 2026, sites had already been allocated for more than 37,000.

The county council has now allocated a further 2,000 in Bicester, 3,000 in Didcot and 1,400 in Wantage and Grove.

Another 2,000 will be built at locations decided by the district councils while 300 will be built in Oxford and about 600 elsewhere.

That 600 will be divided between South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse and West Oxfordshire.

Homes without new roads, railways, schools and health, social, cultural and water supply facilities are useless
Councillor Roger Belson

Councillor Roger Belson, the county council's cabinet member for sustainable development, raised concerns about the need for adequate facilities to be in place for the homes.

He said: "The government needs to get its head around a very simple message.

"Homes without new roads, railways, schools and health, social, cultural and water supply facilities are useless."

The South East England Regional Assembly (Seera) has agreed in principle to a total of 578,000 new homes for Oxfordshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire in the next 20 years.

The county council's allocations will now be submitted to Seera in time for its 9 December deadline.
