Massive sky flash 'was not UFO'
Pylon
A power cut in north Oxfordshire started the series of events
A huge flash which lit up the Oxfordshire sky early on Wednesday morning was caused by an electricity substation, Southern Electric has said.

BBC Radio Oxford reported several worried listeners calling in - some reporting they had seen a UFO.

The electricity company says a power cut dimmed lights across much of the south of the county before the back-up substation at Wantage kicked in.

When the 30,000 volt substation started up it caused the immense flash.

Eyewitness Richard Wells was driving south on the A34 towards Didcot at about 0600 GMT.

"I saw what I originally thought to be a car's full-beam headlights shining at me until I realised that I could see an entire hill in silhouette in front of me," he said.
