Passengers win bus route battle
Map showing X42 route
The route is the only between Oxford and Didcot for some villages
Passengers have won a battle to save their rural bus route after it was scrapped by Thames Travel.

The X42 Didcot to Oxford service, via Ladygrove, Long Wittenham and Clifton Hampden, began in 2003 and is the only service to Oxford for some villages.

After a public outcry, Oxfordshire County Council transport managers have granted a reprieve for the service.

It will now run hourly, under its old number of 107. Easy access low floors will also return on 13 December.

Councillor David Robertson said: "I have been lobbied by local county councillors and the local parishes for the reinstatement of service 107 and they have convinced me how important this service is to local people in their own communities."

The council must now cover a shortfall in funding for the route, which had previously had a grant from the Countryside Agency.
