Concern about size of new buses
New Stagecoach bus
The new Stagecoach buses are nearly 14 metres long
The launch of a new fleet of buses could be delayed because council officials are worried they are too big.

Stagecoach has invested 8m in 25 new vehicles to replace its Oxford Tube fleet that provides services to London.

However, the council believes the buses pose a danger to pedestrians when reversing and has not allowed them to use Gloucester Green station.

Stagecoach says the 14m-long buses are safe but the Health and Safety Executive has now been called in.

Martin Sutton, managing director of Stagecoach in Oxford, said: "What we are proposing to do is reduce the level of activity in the bus station.

"We'll take some further measures to discourage people from being in the area when buses are reversing."

The Health and Safety Executive is to consider the safety procedures in place at Gloucester Green station.
