Car seat experts to help parents

The campaign coincides with National Child Safety Week
Parents with young children are being urged to have their youngsters' car seats checked by safety experts.

Oxfordshire County Council has launched the 'Sitting Tight' road safety campaign as part this year's National Child Safety Week.

The aim is to educate and train parents and carers in the proper use of children's car seats.

In particular, they are appealing to fathers to come forward and receive advice on how to have them fitted.

Peter Cleary, fire risk manager with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, said: "We are hoping that fathers and grandfathers, as well as mothers and grandmothers, will come along and let us check their children's car seats.

"Our observations from previous campaigns have shown that some fathers are reluctant to receive our advice.

"This is possibly because they assume that they have fitted the seat securely and safely.

"Unfortunately, this is often not the case and it's not because of their lack of ability."

Professionals from the fire and rescue service will be on hand offering advice and checking the fitting of children's car seats on Saturday, 26 June, in the car park next to the Citizens' Advice Bureau in Thame.
