They are confident their efforts will help reveal the identity of the culprits who painted the Rollright Stones on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border.

Police have now released CCTV pictures of a person wanted in connection with the vandalism on April Fools' Day.

The pagan community has already offered a �1,000 reward to catch the vandals.

More than �250,000 worth of damage was caused to about 70 stones at the Neolithic circle when it was daubed with yellow gloss paint.

Druids held their own cleansing ritual at the site, near Chipping Norton, soon after the attack, and have since held a number of ceremonies aimed at helping the police investigation.

Karin Attwood, spokeswoman for the Pagan Federation, told BBC News Online: "By the time of the new moon and the summer solstice we should have the name.

"A lot of the work has been done at the scene.

"We have been calling upon various deities associated with justice - chants along the lines of 'justice be done, find the right one'.

"Now his picture is in the pagan public domain it might make him think seriously about giving himself up rather than waiting for whatever justice brings.

"It's only simple work, nothing long and complicated."

Meanwhile, Thames Valley Police have released images taken from a petrol station in Chipping Norton showing a man covered in yellow splashes of paint.

Pc Simon Hallam said: "I am confident that we will be able to identify the offender responsible for this offence."
