Revamp to reduce road accidents
traffic
A 1m road safety scheme will tackle congestion
A 20mph speed limit is to be imposed on a traffic blackspot where a cyclist was killed last week.

The revamp of Cowley Road, Oxfordshire, which will also include wider pavements, is part of a safety project costing more than 1m.

The move comes after the county council set up the Cowley Road Improvement scheme to gauge public opinion.

It is hoped the measures will reduce accidents - after more than 100 injuries on the stretch of road.

The 20mph zone will be introduced on Cowley Road between Divinity Road and Jeune Street and a new cycle route will be incorporated into the flow of traffic.

The plans for the facelift were approved by councillors on Tuesday, following the consultation period, which began last October.

Work on the five-month programme is due to begin between January and February next year.
