Around 50,000 could be spent on removing graffiti |
Tackling graffiti, dirty streets and anti-social behaviour are the main priorities for Oxford residents, a survey has found. The City Council consulted people in Oxford last month to find out where they thought extra money should be spent.
The authority has earmarked its 800,000 surplus to improve services in the city.
A list of 25 projects to improve services is now being considered at a meeting on Monday night.
They include 50,000 to tackle graffiti and flyposting, 20,000 for anti-social behaviour, and 70,000 on street cleaning. Other areas which could receive a cash boost include action to prevent flooding, an additional pest control officer, and new staff to work to prevent homelessness.
Oxford City Council Leader, Councillor Alex Hollingsworth, said: "As a result of careful financial management and monitoring, Oxford City Council now has an ongoing surplus of nearly 800,000 a year.
"Keeping a tight control on our spending means we can now invest extra money in services and activities which local people and organisations agree are priorities for Oxford.
"Our top priorities are projects to make Oxford a safer, better and cleaner city to live and work in."
