Police fine mobile-using drivers
Thames Valley Police have mounted the force's first crackdown on drivers using their hand-held mobile phones.

Police spotters were out for the first time in Kidlington, near Oxford, on Thursday morning to begin fining those found breaking the new law.

The operation saw seven drivers pulled over and given on-the-spot fines for illegally using their mobiles.

Since the law banning mobile phone use was introduced in December, police had just been issuing warnings to drivers.

But, at the beginning of February, they warned motorists that their period of grace was over.

Fifteen drivers were also fined for not wearing seatbelts and three were fined for speeding.
