Police cocktails to tempt drivers
Drink-drive test
The police campaign aims to cut motorists drinking and driving
Thames Valley Police are launching their own range of non-alcoholic cocktails.

Cocktails with names like "Spark Plug" and "Sharp Bend" have been produced as part of their campaign to cut drink-driving.

Many pubs in Oxfordshire will offer the non-alcoholic cocktails at a reduced rate to encourage groups to nominate a designated driver for the evening.

A police spokesman said: "This is a bit of fun with a serious message. I hope that these cocktails will encourage people not to take the risk of drinking and driving.

Special offers

"In August alone we arrested 16 people for drink-driving in Oxfordshire and we will continue to hunt down drink-drivers while they continue to put their lives and the lives of others at risk."

The initiative is part of the "I'll be DES" campaign, a scheme to encourage people to designate a driver for the evening who will not drink.

Mandy Rigault, road safety officer for Oxfordshire County Council, said: "If you are going out in a group, designate a driver at the beginning of the night who will be on soft drinks.

"Many pubs in Oxfordshire are signed up to the DES scheme and will offer discounts or special offers to designated drivers."
