City honour for boxing champion

Boxer and WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has been made a freeman of his home borough.

The 31-year-old boxing champion was appointed Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Gedling.

Froch, known as the Cobra, retained his WBC title last month by beating Jermain Taylor in the US.

A ceremony was held at Gedling Borough Council's Civic Centre to celebrate his sporting achievements and present him with a scroll.

Froch said: "It's an honour and a privilege to represent Nottingham, and Gedling, on the world stage and so to be recognised for that is always thrilling.

"My family and I all live in the borough and that makes it extra special."
