Council considers relocation plan

Nottingham City Council bosses hope to relocate staff into one building in a bid to save money.

Staff are currently split between seven sites and managers believe bringing everyone together into one building would lower running costs.

Councillor Graham Chapman said the older buildings were inefficient and the current market conditions meant it was a good time to buy new premises.

Mr Chapman said the council would only move if it made financial sense.

'Enormous' costs

"Some of the buildings are quite old and are very inefficient in terms of heating," said Mr Chapman.

"We're also expected to change them [the buildings] so they are adapted for the disabled and that is going to cost a certain amount of money.

"That whole combination of maintenance, heating, is costing an enormous amount. If we can get into one building, it's obviously going to save money.

"We want to try to get the best deal for the council tax payer. We're only going to move if we can make it stack up financially."

Mr Chapman added the former Capital One building was being considered but did not want to comment any further as negotiations were in progress.
