Carl Froch, the WBC super-middleweight champion, has been honoured at a civic reception in his home city.

Nottingham City Council hosted the event at the Council House on Monday evening for the boxer, his family and friends.

Froch, 31, claimed the world title with a victory over Canada's Jean Pascal in Nottingham last December.

He is a former British and Commonwealth champion and is now unbeaten in 24 pro fights with 19 knockouts.

'Humbling' gesture

Froch said: "I'm very honoured to accept this wonderful gesture by Nottingham City Council.

"It's very humbling to be asked to follow in the footsteps of some great Nottingham sporting heroes.

"I'm also very proud to be able to represent Nottingham and it's people on the world stage and would like to thank the whole city for it's support."

Nottingham City Council leader, councillor Jon Collins said: "We can all be incredibly proud of Carl and what he has achieved for Nottingham.

"We know he cares a great deal about our city and he has certainly made a huge contribution to our long tradition of sporting excellence.

"As well as his boxing achievements, we should also recognise the work Carl does outside the ring, acting as a positive role model for Nottingham people."
