Widow will unveil Clough statue

The unveiling of a bronze statue of football manager Brian Clough has been set for early November.

The 8ft (2.4m) statue of the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County boss will be "a fitting tribute", his widow Barbara said.

The �60,000 for the memorial has been raised by the Brian Clough Statue Fund.

The Nottingham Forest team and their manager Colin Calderwood will also be present at the unveiling on 6 November, a statue fund spokesman said.

Mrs Clough added: "The small group of volunteers who raised the money and the many fans who supported the fund will be delighted."

Special day

The statue fund is administered by Nottingham City Council.

Council Leader Jon Collins said: "I'm sure there will be lots of people turning out for what should be a very special day."

Paul Ellis, chairman of the statue fund, said: "Mrs Clough has taken a keen interest in the fundraising efforts of the Statue Fund and we are delighted she has given her total support to a project that has meant so much to so many people in the area."

The statue, designed by sculptor Les Johnson, will stand near the Old Market Square at the junction of King and Queen streets.

Clough won the League Championship at Derby County and at Forest, before going on to win two European Cups with the Nottingham club.

He died in September 2004 from stomach cancer at the age of 69.
