Cloughie's statue will be in Nottingham like Robin Hoods

Fundraisers have already raised �70,000 for a statue of the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager who died in September 2004.

The designs will be unveiled by Nottingham City Council on 7 January.

A selection panel will meet later to make the final decision on which artist will make the full bronze statue.

Prolific striker

The shortlisted sculptors are Hampshire-based Les Johnson, Keith Maddison from Northumberland and John McKenna from Ayrshire in Scotland.

The designs will be displayed at Nottingham Council House foyer for six days.

Council leader Jon Collins said: "This is a crucial stage of the selection process and we hope many fans will come to the council house to see the work of the short-listed artists for themselves."

Statue fund chairman Paul Ellis said: "We are looking for a statue which shows Cloughie as everyone remembers him, as the triumphant manager of Nottingham Forest.

"It will be a statue at which people can pay tribute and remember the man who helped to put Nottingham and Nottinghamshire on the map."

Clough won the European Cup with Forest in 1979 and 1980 and the League Championship with Derby County in 1972 and four League Cups with Forest in 1978-79, 1989-90.
