Organisers of the Brian Clough Statue Fund say they are half way towards their �60,000 target for the project. The appeal fund for a statue to honour the man who won two European Cups while Nottingham Forest manager was launched in June 2005.
Special green sweatshirts have been sold along with badges and banners to raise money for a tribute to honour the sporting hero, who died in 2004.
The statue will be located in Nottingham city centre.
A final location has not yet been chosen.
Cup success
The Nottingham Playhouse is also hosting a gala performance of "Old Big 'Ead" - the play inspired by Clough - to raise money for the fund in May.
Clough, who played for Middlesbrough and managed Derby County and Nottingham Forest to League championship wins in the 1970s, died from cancer, aged 69.
He won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest, in 1979 and 1980.
Clough also won two England caps and scored 251 goals in 274 games, as a striker for Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
