The strike action means no Midland Mainline trains will run from Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Nottingham and Luton on 25 October.

Just five trains will run between London and Derby on six Thursdays between 25 October and 29 November.

Midland Mainline said they were disappointed by the action and that services would be limited.

Union Aslef said the dispute centred on disagreements over pension provisions following a pay deal agreed in 2001.

Mick Whelan, from drivers' union Aslef, said: "We are deeply sorry about any disruption to the public and we wouldn't use or go down this avenue unless there wasn't any other choice.

"The reality is that we have tried to resolve this many, many times but we have been unable to do this within the normal processes."
