Nottingham's first "talking" CCTV cameras have been switched on. Six of the cameras have been installed in the city centre, St Ann's and Hyson Green areas.
The cameras, introduced as part of a national initiative, order people to stop misbehaving, via a loudspeaker operated by control centre staff.
James Rhodes from Nottingham's Crime and Drugs Partnership said the cameras would help tackle low level crimes in the city.
"The sorts of behaviour we'll be targeting ranges from... litter dropping and aggressive begging, up to group disorder within the night time.
"It's about protecting the law abiding majority and targeting the minority who act anti-socially and inappropriately in our public spaces," Mr Rhodes said.
Nottingham is one of 20 areas in England to be given money by the government to bring in talking security cameras.
There are an estimated 4.2 million CCTV cameras in Britain.
