Wild butterflies to get new home
Large Blue butterfly
The blue butterfly is a rare sight in Nottinghamshire
A scheme to attract blue butterflies to parts of Nottinghamshire is reaching its final stages with the regeneration of a meadow.

Collington Common, just off Rugby Road in West Bridgford, was an open space with just a few shrubs and trees.

But a green hay crop will soon be spread on the land, cultivating wildflowers to attract the butterflies.

The county's Wildlife Trust said Nottinghamshire had lost 98% of its meadows in the past 100 years.

Species of butterflies, insects and birds are dying out because much of their natural habitat has been destroyed by farming and development.

The scheme includes the recultivation of land in Victoria Park as well as cemeteries and traffic islands.

It is hoped the hay produced from the scheme will go on to be used to create more meadows in the county.
