Meadows restored in heart of city
Large Blue butterfly
Loss of habitat has hit wildlife numbers
Plans to reverse the decline of Nottinghamshire's wild-flower meadows are being launched by the county's wildlife trust.

Species of butterflies, insects and birds are dying out because much of their natural habitat has been destroyed by farming and development.

Victoria Park in Nottingham is the first place to have an area set aside and sown with wild-grass.

Next in line will be traffic islands and cemeteries.

Craig Howat from the wildlife trust said it is a desperate situation.

He said: "Since the war we have lost 99% of all wildflower-rich grasslands in Nottinghamshire.

"We are launching this scheme to try and reverse that and bring the wildlife back."
