Brian Clough's memory was behind the fundraising |
The Brian Clough Memorial Fund is handing over 1,000 to Age Concern Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (ACNN) to support its work for older people. ACNN is the only charity in Notts to get a cash donation, with most of the funds going to Derbyshire charities.
The fund was set up after the death of Brian Clough in September 2004.
Hundreds of well-wishers sent money to the Clough family as a gesture of their support.
Brian's family set up the fund in his honour and have been handing out the money in the last few months.
His daughter Elizabeth said: "We selected charities that my dad had involvement with or just felt an association with.
"There are so many worthy charities we would loved to have supported, but my mum and dad felt a particular affiliation with Age Concern and we are really delighted to see the money go back into helping older people in Nottingham.
"I know it's what my dad would have wanted."
The money will be spent on the development work at the Sybil Levin Centre, based at Cinderhill, Nottingham. The centre is due to re-open in August.
Major building works are under way at the centre which provides services and activities for older people including day care, lunches, coffee mornings, hairdressing, chiropody, plus line dancing, table tennis, yoga and college courses.
ACNN chief executive Mick Tinkler said: "It's a bonus that we are able to offer the family an opportunity to visit the centre and actually see the money being put to good use."
