Operation to curb nuisance bikers
A special operation has been launched by police in Worksop to tackle nuisance bikers.

Residents in the Nottinghamshire town have been blighted by the noise of people riding quad bikes, motorbikes, scooters and go-peds.

It will continue throughout the summer with dedicated patrols in hotspot areas and the use of cameras to identify the vehicles and riders.

Officers will also be holding talks in schools to educate young people.

Notices will also be displayed about the town starting in the Kirton area on the weekend.

Parents informed

The posters will tell people what action they would face if caught.

Pc Jason Crofts said: "We understand completely that vehicles such as quad bikes are popular gifts for young people and are also enjoyed by adults - but they must be used in the correct places.

"If they are being used in a residential area and upsetting residents the rider can be prosecuted and we will take tough action.

"These vehicles must be used on land, where they are not causing a disturbance, and where they have the landowners permission."

Anyone caught driving such a vehicle without a licence, insurance or an MOT, or without a helmet and is causing a disturbance can be prosecuted.

A warning notice will be issued and parents informed if the rider is under 18, more than 20 notices have already been issued in Worksop.
