Protest against incinerator plan
A 4,000-signature petition has been collected opposing plans for a new incinerator in Nottinghamshire.

Campaigners in Forest Town are objecting to proposals for a new waste furnace to be built on the Crown Farm Industrial Estate.

Nottinghamshire County Council insists no final decision on the location has yet been made.

The protest group called MAIN (Mansfield Against Incineration) is worried about any health implications.

Health concerns

A local parish priest, Philip Steed, said: "I've not come across a single person who is in favour of it.

"It will affect people on health grounds especially those with chest complaints and the like ... their health will deteriorate."

Protestors are also concerned about increased noise for people living nearby.

But the county council has said a decision is yet to be made on whether an incinerator will be built anywhere in the Mansfield area.

County councillor George Kane, said: "It must be remembered no decision been made whatsoever on an incinerator or the site where an incinerator will be built."
