Union fights hospital merger plan
Queen's Medical Centre
The QMC, as well as the City Hospital, have budget problems
Opponents to a proposed merger of two of Nottingham's hospitals are stepping up their campaign.

A consultation programme is currently under way for people to have their say on the plans for Nottingham City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre.

Health chiefs claim it would save tens of millions of pounds, but union bosses have raised concern over a possible loss of beds and admin staff.

Unison launched its official opposition campaign on Monday.

It is being backed by Paddy Tipping, MP for Sherwood.

Health bosses said the merger would end duplication and cut waiting lists through greater efficiency.

But Unison regional organiser Andy Freeman said: "This is a blatant cost-cutting exercise and will have no benefits to the people of Nottingham."
