A group of parents at a Nottingham primary school are seeking legal advice to fight its planned closure. The city council recently announced that Stanstead school in Rise Park may close in 2007 - despite previous assurances it would not.
The LEA has admitted plans to merge some of the city's primary schools were unlawful due to over-crowding issues.
Now parents are worried the school's future could be in doubt and have formed an action group to defend it.
Falling numbers
Mandy Jackson, a parent-governor at Stanstead, said: "(The parents) are adamant that they will fight this all the way and we are backing them all the way.
"It could be that we have to go down the legal route and we are currently looking at where we stand and what help we can get.
"The children do not want to go anywhere else and it is frightening for the little ones to be faced with this."
The council has said that a falling number of pupils in the area means there are too many places left unfilled.
