Agency splashes out on flood bank
Flood protection measures have been taken to try to protect more than 1,300 homes in Nottingham.

The Environment Agency has raised the flood bank along a stretch of the River Trent to safeguard houses in Colwick.

Residents are also being urged to make their own preparations, including finding where sandbags are available and preparing an emergency flood kit.

Agency engineer Kevin Coleman said: "If you live or work in a flood risk area, you need to be preparing now."

Disabled access

The flood bank along a 700m stretch of the river at Colwick has been raised by half a metre.

Steps have also been installed at the Candle Meadow Estate to give people access to the flood bank.

A new footpath with a ramp has been built to make the park more accessible.

Mr Coleman said: "This is just one example of the work we do every year to prepare for the winter flood season.

"I would encourage everyone in flood risk areas to follow our example and start their preparations now."
