Extra police are being deployed in Nottingham city centre to protect shoppers and revellers in the build-up to Christmas. Uniformed and plain-clothes officers will join street wardens for the additional evening patrols.
Police are warning people to be extra vigilant with their bags and phones.
Det Insp Paul Murphy, from the City Robbery Team, said: "People should feel reassured that they can come into the city and shop with confidence."
He added: "Police will be visibly present but also patrolling in plain clothes.
"This gives us the edge over the criminal who may try and take advantage of the high numbers of shoppers and revellers in town."
'Safe and not sorry'
Beat Manager Sergeant Ernie Brady said shoppers and revellers needed to be extra cautious over the festive period.
He said: "We want everyone to enjoy the run-up to the festive season, but we need people to remember to be safe and not sorry.
"Over the next few weeks, more officers and wardens will be out there doing everything we can to protect Christmas shoppers and people enjoying a night out, but the public have to play their part too.
"Don't make yourself a target for robbers by walking around with your bag open or phone in your hand.
"Don't give criminals the opportunity to steal from you."
