Canal towpath given green award
A canal towpath in Nottingham has won an environmental award for encouraging people to leave their cars at home.

The 7km stretch of the Nottingham - Beeston Canal towpath has been redeveloped over the past three years at a cost of 750,000.

British Waterways estimate that 20,000 walkers and cyclists now use it every month to get into the city.

In recognition of this, the canal towpath has been given a National Green Apple Silver Award.

The Green Organisation launched the National Green Apple Civic Pride Awards in 2003 to recognise efforts to preserve and protect the environment.
