City canal is 'tangoed'
Ducks in the orange canal
Tangoed? The canal has turned orange
An investigation is to take place into why a section of a Nottingham canal has become covered in orange sludge.

A stretch of the Grantham Canal, in West Bridgford, has mysteriously changed colour.

Nearby resident Lynn Gosling said: "We have lived here for 30 years and we have always had the usual duckweed problem, but never anything this colour.

"We have just assumed it is some form of algae, but why is it only on this stretch of the canal?"

Along with problems caused by the blockage of sunlight for water life, Ms Gosling is concerned children may not recognise the water and try stepping on it.

British Waterways is expected to send scientists to the area on Tuesday afternoon to investigate the problem.
